その彼から新作ミックスをリリースすると言う連絡が届いた。
本人から送られてきた商品説明はコレのみだけだった。
「DrumBreakを含む7インチのみで構成された36track/56vinyl/67min。」
インフォを見た時に真っ先に思った個人的な本音は「説明文章少な～、マジか？w」という印象だったが、TA98のインスタ、過去のミックスから絶対に満足いける内容だろうと信じていた。
新作の案内の連絡から、直ぐさま実物の商品サンプルが私の元へ届き、早速聴いた。
作品を聴いたら、
それは「最高」の一言だった。
その内容をまとめると
・骨太な濃厚ファンクやファットなドラムを効かせたソウルを多数収録
・ヒップホップを経由したスキル抜群の二枚つかい
・所謂レアグルーヴの定番曲やサンプリングネタが多いが、卓越したスキルにより定番曲が面白く聴こえる
・後半になるにつれてメロウな楽曲へと変化していくストーリー性溢れる展開
・スポットとしてのソウルフルなレゲエ
・ドラムブレイク満載の和モノ/和ファンクがひっそりと収録
・旧譜だけでなく近年のヴァイナルもチョイスされている
だった。
まさにタイトルのドラムメソッドとおりのファンクや収録されているヴォーカルソウルも一貫してドラムが太い。
それらの楽曲をインスタでお馴染みの二枚使いを中心に高いスキルを聴かせてくれる。
所謂レアグルーヴのソウル、ファンクの定番曲が多く収録されており、私自身齢40歳でインターネットが普及してない時代から音源を収集している人間としては初めて聴く音源は実際には少なかったのが本音だったが、このCDを最後まで聴いたらそんなことは全く関係なかった。
素晴らし過ぎる2枚使い等のターンテーブル技術により定番曲が新たに生まれ変わり、最初から最後まで曲を飛ばさずに聴きこんでしまった。
卓越したスキルのみでなく、前半は無骨なファンク、中盤から後半へのレアグルーヴクラシック、後半のメロウで心地よいソウル、といった全編通して物語ある流れも素晴らしい。
そんななか和モノのファンクやソウルフルなレゲエが心地よく挟まれて行く。
サンプリングネタも収録されているのでヒップホップリスナーも楽しいだろう。
近年リリースのニューヴィンテージソウルも入っており旧譜リスナーには良い刺激になると思う。
TA98の期待どおりのスキルとレコードチョイスに意外性ある選曲までを収めた一枚となっている。
これはまさに名作だ。きっと、あなたの大切なコレクションのひとつになるはずだ。

前半のI Got Some等の、Hip Hop Junkieなら自然に頭を振ってしまうであろうHardな曲から、後半のMerry Go Round等の、感情を揺さぶるMellowな曲まで、1曲1曲を聴かせながらも曲自体を引き立たせる、タイトな2枚使いが散りばめられていて、気付いたらいつの間にか2周目に突入（おかわり）してました！！！
聴き終わった（食べ終わった）後の多幸感半端ないです！！！
