Timbalandが開発したいわゆる“チキチキ系”、Swizz BeatやNeptunesによるサンプリングに頼らない打ち込み系のサウンドがフロアを沸かせ、特にRuff Ryders関連 (7、8、9、11、12、27、28、31) がヒットを連発した。それと対比してサンプリング重視なBeatnuts (3、4) や流されずリスナーの期待通りなNas (5、10) やQ-Tip (21、37、38)、Common (30) なども健在。

レーベルとして見てもDef Jamの勢いを象徴するようなFunkmaster Flex (35) やJay-Z (34)、Noreag (33) などやBad BoyからThe Notorious B.I.G.、Black Rob。そしてローカス黄金を象徴するMos Def (44) や西海岸アンダーグラウンドの勢いを見せるDilated People、更に再びウエストコーストの復権を担ったDr.Dreの待望のアルバム 「2001」 からのシングルカット13、15やIce Cubeの大ヒット映画 「Friday」 から22、Snoop Dogg (14) やKurupt (20)。
